Job Description:

Clinical Embryologist —  Tropical Location (Close to USA)

This is not a typical embryology role. We are looking for an exceptional, highly experienced Clinical Embryologist who can operate with genuine autonomy, assume senior-level responsibility, and thrive in an environment where self-sufficiency isn't optional — it's essential.

Based at a private IVF clinic on a tropical island close to the USA, this position demands someone who has spent years developing not just technical mastery, but the judgement, resilience, and leadership capability that comes from working at the sharp end of high-pressure fertility medicine. When you're operating in an island setting, the margin for error is smaller, the support infrastructure is different, and the ability to problem-solve independently — often quickly and under pressure — is what separates good embryologists from great ones.

If you're the kind of embryologist who already operates at the highest level — who others turn to, who sets the standard, who spots a problem and fixes it before it becomes a crisis — this role was written for you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform the full range of IVF laboratory procedures to the highest standard, including embryo biopsy for PGT
  • Take effective ownership of laboratory quality assurance, KPI monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Act as the senior decision-maker in the lab, troubleshooting technical issues, equipment failures, and clinical challenges autonomously
  • Maintain and audit laboratory protocols, SOPs, and regulatory compliance documentation
  • Support and mentor any junior laboratory staff, setting professional and technical standards
  • Liaise confidently with physicians, nursing teams, and clinic leadership — contributing meaningfully to clinical strategy and patient outcome reviews
  • Proactively identify risks and implement solutions before they escalate — particularly important in a geographically isolated setting where external support is not immediately available
  • Contribute to laboratory procurement, equipment maintenance planning, and contingency preparedness

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • 10+ years of hands-on IVF laboratory experience, ideally gained across high-volume or high-complexity clinical settings in the USA, UK, Europe, or Australia
  • Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously and make sound clinical and operational decisions under pressure, without reliance on external escalation
  • Proven experience in a senior or lead laboratory role — or a clear track record of functioning at that level within their current position
  • Full technical competency across all core embryology procedures including biopsy and vitrification
  • ABB certification (ELS or higher) held or eligible — or equivalent credentialling from a recognised international body
  • Strong problem-solving instincts and composure in challenging or unexpected situations
  • Excellent communication skills and the emotional intelligence to work effectively within a small, close-knit clinical team
  • Fluent English essential

A note on location: This role is based on a tropical island. That is genuinely one of the most compelling aspects of the opportunity — but it also means that when challenges arise in the laboratory, the solutions need to come from within. We need someone who finds that prospect energising, not daunting.

Please note: Due to visa requirements, a minimum commitment of 3 years is required for this position.

If you are a senior embryologist who has consistently operated above your job title, thrives under pressure, and is ready for one of the most unique roles in reproductive medicine — we want to hear from you.
